The way businesses buy stuff is completely broken. Whether it’s SaaS, hardware, or contractors, the average B2B purchase takes over 3 months, requires 50+ emails, and involves multiple different stakeholders (IT, Legal, InfoSec, Finance, etc.). No one likes the way it is and it’s slowing businesses down.
Omnea’s platform handles the entire purchasing process: giving employees an easy place to make requests (Intake), managing the necessary approvals for the purchase to be made (Approvals Engine), and automating all renewals management & supplier risk assessments. And Omnea gives finance & procurement leaders visibility into how money is being spent.
Given the current market downturn & increased focus on capital efficiency, there has never been a more vital time for businesses to use Omnea and get control of their spend. This is Spend Control 2.0 — built for tougher times.
We are looking for an exceptional, product-minded engineering leader to be Omnea’s first Head of Engineering. You’ll lead the engineering org and bring us from low double-digit to 200+ enterprise customers, from 10 to tens of engineers, and through 10x revenue growth...all in the next 2-3 years! You will support us in driving the growth of our product, team, and company through each chapter as we go from ‘start-up’ to ‘scale-up’.
You’ll be joining us at the most exciting possible time — we raised an initial $5m from two tier 1 VCs and 30+ renowned founders & angel investors in summer 2022 and have since become one of Europe’s fasting growing SaaS businesses. We’ve built an incredible & passionate engineering team (who were all top performers at companies like Cazoo, Primer, Freetrade, etc.) and we’ve shipped our platform to many renowned & happy customers (Lookout, McAfee, Onfido, Typeform, Tractable, etc.), all whilst managing to stay lean & operate efficiently.
Now we’re ready to scale. This role is not for the faint-hearted and we are looking for the best engineering leader out there to help build Omnea into one of Europe’s leading tech businesses.
London • £120k-£160k+ • ⇪ Substantial Equity
What can you expect?
You’ll be the Founding Head of Engineering at one of Europe’s fastest growing early-stage companies reporting into our Founder CEO and working with an experienced team who have built businesses before & worked with the best investors and teams out there
You’ll own the execution of our product roadmap from initial scoping & estimations all the way through to committing to key development milestones with the team — you will ensure things are delivered on time and to the right level of quality
You’ll be product-minded and over time will become a sparring partner to the product team, sharing opinions & understanding customer needs
You’ll take over management of our existing engineering team, which is made up of 10 top performing, thoughtful, and product-minded engineers who are excited to learn from someone who’s scaled teams before
You’ll design the structure of the eng org as we scale, and will establish the right level of structure & process for each stage of Omnea’s growth
You will oversee the hiring & onboarding of new team members & maintaining our high bar for quality — we try to stay lean where we can and focus on quality > quantity
You’ll be the voice of engineering across the company, ensuring the eng org is well aligned to business goals. And you’ll ensure we’re a highly effective engineering company and that we follow best practices (eg. Continuous Delivery)
You’ll help to set our technical vision, fostering the right environment & team structures for healthy decision-making, and you’ll working closely with the team when building Omnea’s technical strategy
As a member of the leadership team, you’ll work closely with all areas of the business including our CEO & Head of Finance on company strategy and hiring plans, and our Product Lead (Ben Allen, our ‘CTO’ leads Product, not Eng) & Customer Lead to maintain a good understanding of how customers are using the product & what they want us to build. And of course you’ll get to know everyone across the business too as we’re a start-up!
About you
You’ve managed a high performing team before for 4+ years, having been a great coach, mentor, and leader. You know that managing teams & building a business is tough but have a way of bringing out the best in people along the way
You’ve built exceptional teams before — hiring & onboarding amazing engineers, designing the org through scale, and setting the technical vision
You’ve worked in high calibre environments, alongside great people building great products. It’s likely you’ve been an engineering leader at another tech start-up / scale-up and now want to go on the journey of taking a team/business/product from early stage to scale
You had a strong track record as a senior IC before you grew into an eng leader. You’ve built full-stack web apps, having designed and implemented features from start to finish ideally using Typescript and AWS
You’ve built broad, complex, and secure systems before that needed to scale to tens of thousands of users (b2b SaaS experience is a big plus here)
You’ve thrived inhigh intensity environments before. You’re used to being held accountable for results, have proven that you have a ‘steady hand’ when leading, and you can instil confidence in your team and customers
You’re ambitious and committed to a really successful career. You know this requires hard work & some sacrifice but to you it’s all worth it, and you’re excited by the journey of building something. You’re willing to lead by example and put in what it takes
You’re a product-minded and business-minded engineering leader — you have thought through the lens of customers before, can link engineering outcomes to business goals, and can communicate effectively with non-technical leaders across the business
Nice to haves
You have experience building from the earliest stages onwards, whether that’s a company, engineering team, or a product. For example you may have built a team from 5-20+ engineers before, or a product from hundreds to thousands of users
You’ve been involved in other aspects of businesses or entrepreneurial endeavours — perhaps you’ve managed support, product ops, or customer teams before. More broadly, you have the ability and/or appetite to get stuck into anything that can drive Omnea forward
Know anyone great? Refer them to us by emailing Claire at claire.w@omnea.co and we’ll pay you £10,000 once they pass probation!
